Mark Pasek is a veteran of New York’s contemporary art world, with decades of experience in art handling, exhibition production, gallery operations, and artist support. Known as a skilled installer and exhibition specialist, he worked with influential artists, galleries, and collectors, including collaborations connected to Keith Haring, Wes Lang, and dealer Tony Shafrazi.
In the early 2000s, Pasek founded the Mark Pasek Gallery on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, where he championed emerging contemporary artists during a formative period in the neighborhood’s art scene.
Now focused entirely on his own painting practice, Pasek creates highly realistic portraits of dumpsters he encounters during his travels. Through meticulous attention to detail, he transforms these overlooked urban objects into evocative studies of place, history, and human presence. Drawing on a lifetime in the art world, his work celebrates the unexpected beauty of everyday subjects.
